Tips for Mac OS partitions


  1. The order of the partitions matter for resizing.
  2. In Disk Utility View the first partition is on the top and goes downward.
  3. When reformatting you must go in order from bottom up.
  4. You may have to use time machine to move the boot partition to the first partition.
  5. The main boot partition should always be the first one.
  6. You may have to turn off file vault and wait for the hard drive to decrypt before you can resize.
  7. Some of the new Macs are coming with encryption enabled as default.
